Principal FPGA Engineer
Join us and work with cutting-edge FPGA technology, a skilled international team, and some of the most interesting global customers in the industry. We are seeking a hands-on Principal FPGA Engineer to join our R&D team in Espoo. You will develop and maintain FPGA-based systems at the core of our advanced test equipment. Working closely with hardware, firmware, and software teams, your designs will directly shape the performance and capabilities of Unigraf products.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain FPGA systems
- Design new FPGA components
- Add new features to third-party IPs
- Integrate RTL components into different FPGA platforms
- Debug and maintain existing FPGA components
- Improve FPGA development processes and architecture according to QA requirements
- Perform maintenance, design, simulation, synthesis, and hardware testing of FPGA components and systems
- Occasional international travel
- RTL development languages: Verilog and SystemVerilog
What We’re Looking For
You have a strong foundation in FPGA design and can take projects from concept to fully tested hardware. You are self-motivated, disciplined, and collaborative, with strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 10 years of hands-on FPGA design experience using Verilog / VHDL
- Strong understanding of FPGA architecture and logic design fundamentals
- Knowledge of Clock and Reset Domain Crossing principles
- Experience with Timing Closure challenges and solutions
- Familiarity with common interfaces (DDR3/4, I2C, SPI, RS232)
- Proficiency with Altera Quartus or Xilinx Vivado IDE (synthesis, simulation, place and route, timing closure)
- Experience with Modelsim/Questa testbenches for module/system-level testing
- Exposure to debugging tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers) and FPGA on-chip debugging
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for global, cross-functional collaboration
- Ability to interpret and communicate engineering drawings and technical documents.
Nice to Have:
- Knowledge of C/C++ and scripting (bash, TCL, Python)
- Experience with audio/video interfaces (DisplayPort, HDMI)
- Familiarity with high-speed communication interfaces (PCIe, USB)
- Experience with high-speed FPGA transceivers (PMAs and PCSs)
