Senior Research Scientist in Solid State Physics
We are looking for a Research Scientist in the domain of Solid-State Physics to join AGATE Sensors in Espoo or Tampere, Finland! In this role, you’ll contribute to the research, development and innovation of AGATE’s groundbreaking hyperspectral imaging sensors based on decade of scientific research at Aalto university. You’ll be part of a strong multidisciplinary R&D team, and working closely with researchers, engineers, and algorithm developers to inspire scientific innovation which leads to mass manufacturability of the sensors. As a Research Scientist, you’ll be a key contributor to the AGATE Sensors’ technical journey from innovative scientific ideas to sensor hardware design. As a Solid-State Physicist, you will contribute to the investigation of charge carrier transport mechanisms of advanced image sensor architectures. This role blends fundamental physics, numerical simulation, and experimental validation, offering the opportunity to directly influence cutting-edge sensor development.
You’ll join a tight-knit, international team of 21 professionals — a group of physicists, engineers, algorithm developers and commercialization experts driven by curiosity and scientific excellence. Backed by peer-reviewed research, published studies, and multiple patent filings, AGATE operates at the highest standards of scientific innovation.
Work tasks
- Solve fundamental technical problems related to image sensor design and development.
- Model and analyze charge transport mechanisms in advanced semiconductor architectures.
- Process, analyze and interpret technical data
- Validate simulation results against experimental data
- Co-ordinate research activities with physicists, engineers and algorithm developers
We are looking for
- Have a Doctorate Degree or Postgraduate degree in Physics with industry experience.
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of Solid-State Physics, Semiconductors, Materials Science, Electronics Engineering, or related fields.
- Strong understanding of carrier transport phenomena in standard semiconductors, optoelectronic devices, and image sensors.
- Hands-on experience with simulation tools and packages.
- Strong ability in data analysis and scientific problem solving.
- Strong analytical mindset and the ability to work independently on open-ended problems.
- Fluent English
